2 – Examinations during pregnancy

The examinations you will undergo during your pregnancy.

During your pregnancy, you will need to undergo a number of tests.

These are harmless and help to monitor the healthy progress of your pregnancy and your baby.

Blood tests

You will need to have blood tests, which your doctor or midwife will prescribe on a regular basis and explain to you.

Pregnancy ultrasound scans

Three ultrasound scans will be carried out during your pregnancy, one in each trimester (at around 12, 22 and 32 weeks).Additional ultrasounds may be performed if your gynecologist or midwife deems it necessary. On the day of the ultrasound, it is ESSENTIAL that you bring the referral form that your gynecologist or midwife gave you.

Monitorings

Foetal monitoring is usually carried out towards the end of pregnancy and involves recording your baby’s heart rate and any contractions for around 30 minutes.

If further tests are required, these will be explained to you during your pregnancy.
