Infectious Diseases

The Department of Infectious Diseases: a centre of excellence at both international and international.

Nos spécialités

The Infectious Diseases Department consists of an inpatient unit (three wards), an outpatient department (clinics), a hospital-wide antimicrobial stewardship unit, and a clinical research unit. It also houses the Reference Centre for the care of people living with HIV / AIDS.

CHU Saint-Pierre is a recognised reference centre for highly contagious and emerging diseases, operating under an agreement with the Federal Public Service for Public Health.

As a department affiliated with the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), it also plays a key role in teaching and professional training.

Outpatient Department

The Outpatient Department includes

Infectious Diseases Centre (MIA Centre)

  • General infectious disease consultation
  • Follow-up care for people living with HIV
  • Screening for sexually transmitted infections and HIV Free, anonymous HIV testing
  • Access to pre- and post-exposure HIV treatment
  • ImmunoStart consultations (preparation for immunosuppressive therapy)
  • Lyme disease consultations
  • Lyme disease consultations
  • Complex tuberculosis consultation

TRAVEL & VACCINE CLINIC

This travel medicine centre welcomes travellers before and after their journeys (vaccinations, prevention advice, and screening for tropical diseases)

Hospital Division

INPATIENT DIVISION – Porte de Hal Site
The inpatient division consists of two acute care wards, 15 beds each, equipped with isolation facilities for contagious diseases and supported by a multidisciplinary team, and a long-stay ward, 10 beds, dedicated to patients with tuberculosis (Dersheid Unit).

Teaching

TEACHING AND TRAINING

  • Including supervision of doctors in training (internal medicine, infectious diseases, general practise)
  • Including clinical training for medical students
  • Including a continuing professional development programme on HIV infection
  • Including the Infectious Diseases Glem
  • Including hosting international doctors as observers
