HIV testing is available free of charge for individuals without health insurance or those wishing to remain anonymous, with or without an appointment.. PrEP follow-up consultations are available by appointment only.

The Infectious Diseases Centre (MIA/Infectieuze Aandoeningen) is part of the Infectious Diseases Unit within the Department of Internal Medicine. Doctors at the Infectious Diseases Centre are registered with the INAMI. Medical and psychiatric consultations are charged at standard reimbursement rates (or free of charge under the Royal Decree of 12 December 1996 as part of Urgent Medical Assistance).
For patients living with HIV, an agreement between the HIV Reference Centre and the INAMI allows free access to all non-medical consultations, including nursing care, psychological support, sexological consultations, social and dietetic consultations, as well as those dedicated to care coordination.
An agreement also allows individuals on PrEP to benefit from free nursing and psychological/sexological consultations
Finally, people without private health insurance or wishing to undergo anonymous HIV testing can receive this testing free of charge.
The Infectious Diseases Centre works closely with hospital departments and several community organisations.
Mpox – Situation Update
There is currently an active Mpox outbreak in several Central African countries (DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, etc.). At present, the risk of importation remains real but low.

The Infectious Diseases Centre offers:
- Diagnosis and treatment of symptomatic STIs (available on site)
- Various vaccinations
- Post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV: if you have had a single confirmed risk exposure with someone who is HIV-positive or suspected of being so, you must go, within hours of exposure (as soon as possible and no later than 72 hours), to the Emergency Department (Saint-Pierre site, 290 Rue Haute) or the MIA Centre during the opening hours specified on the website to assess whether post-exposure treatment is necessary.

Free and anonymous testing for HIV and other STI
Under certain conditions, testing for HIV and other STIs can be free and anonymous. These conditions are set out in a Royal Decree.
You do not need to fast before taking the tests.
You can also ask your GP or a family planning clinic for an HIV and STI test.

Complex Tuberculosis Consultations
Tuberculosis is an infection that primarily affects the lungs and requires long-term and complex treatment. It may also affect other organs and can be particularly difficult to manage, especially in immunocompromised individuals. In collaboration with the Pulmonology Department, FARES and VRGT, the MIA Centre provides specialised follow-up for complex tuberculosis cases.
The various services:
Medical Service
Medical consultations are provided by general practitioners or specialists in infectious diseases, internal medicine, psychiatry, gynaecology, hepatology, neurology, proctology and nephrology..
Most consultations are by appointment, although some screening services are available without an appointment.
Nursing Service
It helps patients understand their treatments (effects, side effects, etc.) and the importance of taking them correctly. It provides information on STI prevention. It performs clinical procedures, such as vaccinations, administration of treatments, and administering long-acting intramuscular antiretroviral treatments.
The nursing service operates by appointment and is also available during the following drop-in sessions:
Social Service
These consultations are designed to assist patients (by providing information, advice, support, etc.) with all the practical steps required to regularise their social and administrative status (including those in debt or without income, undocumented migrants, asylum seekers, etc.)

Psychology and Sexology Servic
Psychologists provide support to help patients cope with the emotional and psychological impact of their diagnoses and treatment, promoting mental health and adaptation. They provide essential psychological support to help patients adapt to and manage their condition and the various treatments. Sexologists contribute their expertise in addressing sexual and relational issues, encouraging open discussion around intimacy, prevention, and sexual wellbeing of those affected
Together, these professionals ensure a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to care, addressing psychological, emotional, relational, and sexual health. Their expertise contributes not only to the management of medical aspects, but also to the understanding and promotion of the mental wellbeing of individuals facing these complex challenges.
The counselling service operates by appointment and is also available during drop-in sessions:

Dietetic Service
Dietary advice provides personalised support to patients, helping them to manage their healthy eating habits effectively and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, including diabetes, prevention of osteoporosis, etc.
Consultations are by appointment only.
