If you are a national of one of the 28 Member States of the European Union, it is imperative that you have the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you when you come to the hospital.<\/p>\n
For a medical consultation<\/b>, you must pay the total cost of it and you will receive a document that will enable you to obtain reimbursement later.<\/p>\n
For planned medical treatment<\/b>, you must have the S2 form (formerly E112). Original document only, signed and stamped, stating the coordinates of the beneficiary, the duration of the treatment or hospitalization covered by the social security (assumed date of admission and exit), as well as the name of Saint-Pierre University Hospital. <\/p>\n
In case of emergency<\/b>, your European Health Insurance Card ensures that the cost of your treatment is covered.<\/p>\n

If you are a citizen of a country which does not belong to the European Union and\/or you are lacking social security coverage, and you plan to come to Belgium as a tourist, you should be aware that the cost of medical treatment is entirely at your own expense. There is no possibility of your medical costs being paid by any Belgian organization of any kind whatsoever (social security, the Belgian state etc.). <\/p>\n

If you benefit from a private insurance or any other financial coverage for the cost of your treatment and\/or hospitalization, you shall inform the International Patients Service thereof. We will examine the validity of the document and will inform you of our decision. Insurance policies that are not recognized by the hospital are not valid. <\/p>\n
About travel insurances!<\/b><\/p>\n
Travel insurance is designed to provide cover to the policyholder either on holiday or on a business trip. It includes cancellation, loss or theft of luggage and personal possessions, unexpected medical expenses but excludes cover for medical conditions the policyholder already had when they took out the insurance, any illnesses arising from “pre-existing” medical conditions, any mental conditions (such as a nervous breakdown) and the effect of alcohol or drug dependency or long term abuse, childbirth and related complications outright as well as abortion,\u2026<\/b>
Furthermore, it applies a ceiling or a maximum covering percentage. <\/p>\n
